When Our Hearts Are Hurting

Updated: Jan 8

How has your week been? Has it been a tough one? I’ll be honest. It has for me. On several levels. Life is like that sometimes. We long for mornings to wake up and not have a care in the world. But rarely, if ever, does that happen. So what do we do when our hearts are hurting? How do we carry on?

Today’s blog is meant for me just as much as you. As I write these words, it is part of God’s therapy of healing in my own heart. At the moment, I feel quite weary and beaten down emotionally. Not really in a place to share specifics, but as we say, God knows. And He does. Just like He intimately knows your current circumstances.

So as I’ve been spending time with Jesus and His Word, I’ve been asking Him to remind me of what He wants me to know. To believe with all my heart. To trust no matter what my circumstances may be. And here is what He has reminded me of today:

You will keep him in perfect peace,

Whose mind is stayed on You,

Because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 26:3

In the midst of trouble, I am to keep my eyes fixed upon Him. When I am tempted to worry, I can choose to look to the stability of His love. When I am feeling afraid, I can trust in the security of His arms of refuge. When all around me seems so dark and confusing, I can be reminded He is the Light of the world. His Word is the Lamp to my feet and the Light to my path. He is my Peace.

And as I look to Him as my Solution-Maker, He will take care of the hurts and disappointments. He will straighten the crooked paths. He will do a new thing which I can see by faith and not by sight.

And in the process, my hurting heart is soothed by the balm in Gilead. He is our Healer and Redeemer. He will take care of us. So my dear friend, take heart along with me today. Our current moment may be painful, but joy does come in the morning. He has promised it.
